A 34-year-old man opened fire at the U.S. Navy Yard on Monday in a shooting that left 13 people dead, including the gunman, not far from the U.S. Capitol and the White House, officials said. 2013年度の世界幸福度レポート(World Happiness Report)が、コロンビア大学地球研究所から発表された。これによると、世界で最も幸福度の高い国はデンマークで、続く2~5位は順にノルウェー、スイス、オランダ、スウェーデンとなっている。……この総合ランキングで、アメリカは17位と、メキシコ(16位)のすぐ下に位置している。その他の国々では、イギリスが22位、ロシアが68位に入ったほか、中国はかなり低位の93位、イラクは105位にランキングされている。

President Barack Obama has won backing from key US political figures on his plans for a military strike on Syria. Mr Obama said a "limited" strike was needed to degrade President Bashar al-Assad's capabilities in response to an alleged chemical weapons attack. Key Republican leaders John Boehner and Eric Cantor both voiced their support for military action. Congress is expected to vote next week.
