Barclays bonuses: the dice are loaded in favour of executives | The Guardian

Another day, another bonus bonanza at Barclays: this time, it's £32m in shares for top management. This collection of bonuses, we are invited to think, is merely of passing interest because it relates to awards made in past years. Yes, that's how the new system of deferral of bonuses works. The 5 richest families in Britain prove the theory that money follows money | theguardian.com

Today's statistics from Oxfam fall into the same category: the five richest families in Britain have more wealth than 12.6 million Britons put together. Next to such staggering realities, Oxfam's proposed response is strikingly mild. Close tax loopholes, support a living wage, consider a wealth tax. These are decent enough measures in themselves, but it would be useful just occasionally to break down the social meaning of such information, and work out a response on that basis.

Missing Malaysia Airlines plane: Interpol’s database of stolen passports is there to be used - The Independent

Two passengers on board the missing Malaysia Airlines flight to Beijing were travelling on false passports, once belonging to an Italian and an Austrian national, and stolen some years ago in Thailand.
